Cycling

Linda Wonnacott and why she cycles “You can’t get around Colchester in a car, it’s always at a standstill, so a bike is invaluable for getting around town, and it’s good exercise too”

The "mountain bike and Lycra®" image leads many of us to believe that cycling is not for us, but nothing could be further from the truth. Cycling is easy to build into your everyday life - and it's far easier and cheaper than a visit to a gym! Once you're out and about on a bike, few people will know that you're new in the saddle, and you will soon find yourself fitter and leaner. Three quarters of all personal journeys are less than 5 miles long - that's just half an hour on a bike.

As well as keeping you fit and saving money, cycling is also great for the environment, producing no pollution, noise or congestion.

A great way to get involved is to join one of the following leading organisations. Visit Essex County Council website on some great ideas on where to take your bike this autumn.

There are plenty of good off-road routes around Colchester, but if you don't feel very confident cycling in town, or need help choosing a bike, there's training and advice available, contact us as MIND on 01206 760362
